So it’s been a while . . .

Hi everyone! I’ve been very bad about posting over the last week to two weeks, and I apologize if that’s caused any inconvenience. I know how vital I am to the continuation of life for the vast majority of hockey fans 🙂

Anyhow, just wanted to jot down some quick thoughts on hockey this lovely snowy morning in Philadelphia.

1. Danny Briere registered one goal and one assist in his first game with the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Flyers’ AHL affiliate. In and of itself, that’s not so odd. An NHL offensive dynamo like Briere should be able to post points in the minors, even if he is playing below 100%.

But this game had two weird storylines. First of all, Claude Lemieux plays for the Worcester Sharks, so there were two NHL marquis names dressed at the Spectrum last night.

And Danny Briere scored his lone goal short-handed. Now who would’ve imagined Briere, known for being a defensive liability, killing a penalty, let alone scoring a shortie?

2. I was thrilled to see Washington pull away during the third period last night. The Penguins appeared to have a real burst of confidence following their victory at the Wachovia Center. And nothing can cure that little problem like a double jolt of Alexander Ovechkin!

3. Terrfic trade for Columbus yesterday! Jason Williams will add some scoring depth to the Blue Jackets’ roster, something they dearly need with the injuries to rookie Derrick Brassard and superstar Rick Nash. I’m rooting for this team to make the playoffs in the West – those loyal hockey fans in Columbus deserve something to celebrate!

Yeah, but while Columbus is at it, couldn’t they at least let the Avs win one against them? 🙂

And no sign of snow here in Jersey…

And now for the obligatory comment about the hockey world starting to spin again that you just knew I was going to post on here:
“Hey FF, now that you’re back the hockey world has started spinning again! It had stopped for a while there with your absence, but luckily you’ve returned in time to save us NHL fans from certain doom.” 😉

Word has it that Raycroft will get a fifth straight start tonight against the Blues. I think I can officially declare my mission a success if that happens.

Nope, Budaj is in. So Granato is still an idiot. 🙂

Well, Budaj is doing his best to give the game away despite the efforts of Hejduk and McCleod. 3-2 with 8 minutes left in the third…

Down 4-2, and if we don’t score on this Power Play, it’s over.

    Sigh…. 😦

    1. It was snowing in southeast PA, the whole way from where I live in the sticks to downtown Philly. And who cares about Jersey anyway? 😛

    2. And the sarcasm continues . . .

    3. Mission: Impossible

    4. Why the smiley on Granato being an idiot? That makes no
sense to me since Granato’s idiocy is bad for you, the Avs fan. Unless it’s a sarcastic smile . . .

    5. Perhaps other NHL owners have worked around the cap by giving Budaj a bonus to lose games?

    6. I know the feeling. 4-1 loss to the Lightning. Ugh.

I hate the smileys on WordPress. That one is supposed to be sticking its tongue out. And instead, it just looks happy. [Shaking fist at computer]

Come on FF, I can’t reply to that many comments! Why did you have to post that many times?? 😉

    1. Um, I don’t think anyone cares. But if it’s going to be in the teens and 20s anyway, it might as well snow.

    2. What exactly did you expect? It’s not like I lost the ability to be sarcastic while you were gone.

    3. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why don’t they just declare me the Bench Boss since I obviously know more than the ‘esteemed’ Tony Granato?!

    4. I don’t know that the smiley was necessary, but I was trying to imply that he had almost escaped idiot status, but by playing Budaj last night he cemented himself as a freaking moron.

    5. No, you’ve got it all wrong! They offered him bonuses if he WON, that way he would be guaranteed to lose. Whether by trying too hard, or simply because he refuses to win any games, period.

    6. Well, I’m going to blame the consecutive losses on playing away from the Pepsi Center. We’re at home for a while now, so there are no excuses if we continue to drop in the standings.

    7. Yeah, WordPress needs a little bar showing the smileys so you can choose the one you want or something. They should also program their SpellChecker so that “WordPress” isn’t considered a typo.
