Amidst the signings, a few blogs of note

James Mirtle posted a great blog on who’s over and who has room to make some moves.  It’s Day 3 of free agency, and there are still pieces in play.

Edward Fraser, editor of, posted some Bits and Bites from free agency that nicely sum up the first days of free agency.

And for those feeling frustrated this July, Teebz of the Hockey Blog in Canada presents a healthy rant on the salary cap, free agent inflation, and Gary Bettman in general.

Personally, I’m confused by the Marian Hossa signing in Detroit.  But I’m not a Penguins fan.  There is some serious photoshopping going on over at The Pensblog drawing comparisons between Hossa and famous historical figures.  Though some contributions are less lofty.

So tell us, Pensblog, how do you really feel?

For those wondering how Sean Avery will fit into the Dallas Stars lockerroom, captain Brendan Morrow had some candid words regarding his team’s newest addition.  It’s a must-read.  I commented yesterday that things happen when Avery’s around, and apparently he can draw a revealing quote even when no one talks to him.

I don’t know what the Penguins fans’ problem is. They knew that it was going to be hard to keep Hossa after the season was over, so why are they surprised it happened?
And who wouldn’t want to go to the Stanley Cup Champions (Who have been consistently competing for years)?

To Pittsburgh fans: The simplest solution would have been to just beat the Wings! Then maybe Hossa would have opted to stay with you guys at a slight discount…. :-0
