Quick Hit #2 for 3/25

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Tim Panaccio is reporting that the Flyers have signed Swedish goaltending prospect Joacim Eriksson. If that’s true, it’s a fantastic move for the Flyers. They have great organization depth at forward and some solid prospects on defense, but goaltending is a gigantic black hole.

Looks like Panaccio jumped the gun.

“Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said minutes ago that the club has not signed Swedish goalie Joacim Eriksson but is close to completing a deal on another goalie.”

Wonder who the other goalie is.

Not sure who they would have signed. I haven’t been paying close attention to the Elite League or the KHL this year, which would be where most free agents are currently playing. And the majority of the best college hockey goalies are still tied up in the NCAA tourney.

      Who knows . . .

    Two things:

    1. Sorry FF, but I kind of enjoyed watching the Flaming F*gs get shut out tonight. I would normally never vote for the Malkin-Crosbys, but I admit that I liked the outcome. Any chance I’ll be forgiven before next season? :-)

    2. Also, please tell me that NHL.com is screwy and that DOES NOT SAY 7-1 ANAHEIM! Holy crap we suck! 8-1, 7-1.. What next, 25-0?? Tampa Bay is going to pass us now, with even the Islanders a threat to overtake us before the season is out. Plus Stastny is hurt again, this time a broken foot. Can things get worse, or should I not ask that question?

As long as the Pens lose every game from here on, no harm done ;) But if the Pens get into the playoffs and somehow manage to fineagle themselves a Stanely Cup . . . well, let’s just say it will get ugly.

Would it be that awful if the Islanders and the Lightning finished ahead of Colorado? You’d have a better shot at the Tavares/Hedman sweepstakes. And even better, Toronto fans will hate you. It’s a win-win!

Well, I don’t foresee them winning the Cup, but “I accept full responsibility” if they do. ;-)

    Theoretically, no at this point it wouldn’t be a bad thing. But how can a team go from the second round of the Playoffs to worst in the NHL?! Was Theodore really that big a factor, is Granato truly that much of an idiot, did we miss Sakic more than I thought? How did this happen?! {Now I think I know how fans of bottom-dwellers must feel..}

What is this I see? You mean to tell me that the invincible F*gs got shut out not once, but twice in a row?! It can’t be, something must be rigged.. Or perhaps they suck, just like I said. And man how I wish Steve Mason was on the Avs. :-)

Everyone except for Lou Lamiorello wishes they had Steve Mason.

And maybe those Flames just aren’t as good as people think. It’s not like Cammalleri and Jokinen are used to high-pressure hockey . . .

Everyone except NJ and Columbus I guess. But there are probably a few teams who are convinced they don’t need a goalie upgrade. Teams like Clagary, Anaheim, Pittsburgh..

Sure Jokinen’s used to high-pressure hockey. Like when his team was fighting desperately to stay in the Playoff hunt while on the Panthers. Anyway, I’m holding out hope for St. Louis and Nashville to obtain the 7th and 8th seeds. That’ll keep Edmonton, Dallas, Anaheim and Minnesota out of postseason play.

Also, how did Brodeur’s save to preserve his 552nd win manage to take the #1 spot for “Saves of the Week”? Maybe I missed something, but that did not look like the best of the bunch. They could have at least shown a replay to help convince me that it was a tough shot to stop and not just the NHL tripping over themselves to celebrate Brodeur some more in any way possible.

Oh, come on, this has to be a setup. The Isles are playing Detroit tonight, meaning I am essentially voting for NY to close in on us. D*mn you NHL schedule-makers!

What the heck is it with Chicago: First they take Quenneville and make me vote for the Hawks, now they trade for Cutler and force me to secretly cheer for the Bears?!

Apparently is a concerted conspiracy effort, designed to draw you into the Chicago fold. For what dastardly purposes, we do not yet know . . .
